I love to read Harry Potter and Twilight fanfiction. It seems whenever I'm not working or in school, I'm reading. After reading so many wonderful stories I have decided to start writing my own stories. I have two that I'm writing on my own and one that I am writing with someone on another site. It is a lot of fun to write but the ideas don't seem to flow so it's taking me a lot longer than I would like.
Twilight Fanfiction Plots that I Like:
1) Edward & Bella as a couple. They are my favorite couple to read, which is about 90 of all of the fanfiction I've ever read. The other 9 is the other canon couples, while the last 1 is non-canon couples that are usually in the story I'm already reading.
2) Bella can read Edwards thoughts. I always thought this plot idea was intriguing. I've read a few fics where Bella could read Edward's thoughts but he still couldn't read hers and it made the story MUCH more interesting. Of course now the stories haven't updated in forever or are abandoned. :/ But I really like the concept of her finding out everything that is going on with him before she even really met him, such as in the biology class when he thought about attacking her. Always interesting.
3) Bella changed by James or Jasper in Twilight or New Moon. This plot always got my attention because the change would have had to occur while Edward was still there. He hadn't left yet and now, wouldn't have a reason to leave other than guilt. I have thought about writing a plot like this where she was changed by Jasper in New Moon and after she was changed, Jasper felt so much guilt and remorse from Edward's anger that Edward and Bella ended up going to live on their own for a little bit.
4) All-Human stories with Edward single dad and/or Bella single mom, confident Bella, Doctor Edward (yum!). I like many all-human stories. These are the particular plots that I like to read in the all-human category. I'm tired of Bella always doubting herself and her feelings for Edward, especially assuming his feelings for her. It is an annoying plot that I can't stand. That is why in my stories, Bella at least has a head on her shoulders and thinks logically and rationally before making life-altering decisions, also when Edward would tell her that he loves her, she will believe him and not just deny it. sigh That REALLY irritates me.
5) Darkward, Geekward, Doctorward, Militaryward, etc. I am desperately in love with any of these Edward's. I seem to gravitate to them and can't stop reading them. :D
Harry Potter Fanfiction Plots that I Like:
1) Harry and Hermione's close, platonic relationship or relatives. I always liked where Harry and Hermione were really close in a story, whether it's just really good friends or blood relations, but never as a couple. eck! Their personalities would clash I think, and plus I absolutely LOVE Harry and Ginny together. His hot-head and her fiery temper create a very passionate relationship. :) Favorite Stories:
2) Retelling of certain books, and Ginny's point of view in general. I have read a few of these, one where it was Ginny's POV from book one all the way to their marriage, and another where it's just Half-Blood Prince, and a few more where it's just a specific part in the story - the Yule Ball, the OOTP Christmas kiss between Harry and Cho, etc. Favorite Stories: In the Words of Ginevra Molly Potter, The Dare.
3) Harry and Ginny meeting before Hogwarts in coincidental ways. This plot usually ties in with the soul bond plot, which I also love, or they begin a friendship before Hogwarts, or even when it starts, that turns into an early relationship (POA or GOF). Favorite Stories: Harry Potter: The Other Child.
4) Time travel stories. I love reading these. Usually it's Harry and Ginny travelling to the past to fix things but I have read a few where it's Harry, Ginny, and Ron or Harry and Hermione. Even the Maurader's traveling to the future would be interesting. I am actually working on a Harry and Ginny story where they travel into the past to fix the future. It's so much fun to write. :) The only time travel stories that I don't like so much are when any of the trio or Ginny gets sent back to the Maurader time era. They usually have Harry stunned and transfixed with his parents, who aren't together, and they eventually figure out that Harry is their son from the future, but no one can tell anyone what has happened in the future. It's too over used and I'm not a big fan of it. Favorite Stories: Backwards With Purpose Trilogy, Erasing the Future, Forgetting the Future, Fate's Rewind, Harry Potter and the Nightmare's of Futures Past, A Tale of Two Destinies Series, Phantasmatic.
5) Ginny being involved in canon events earlier than HBP. I always liked the idea of Ginny accidentally tagging along with one of the trio's earlier adventures and from then on out she sticks with them, or even begins to date Harry. I also like one's where Ginny didn't have a date to the Yule Ball yet when Harry asked her and they end up going together then dating or whatever else happens. Favorite Stories: A Friend Indeed, If You Can Help Her, Need, The Dare, Harry Potter and the Twist of Fate Series.
6) Independent!Harry and/or Independent!Ginny. I am completely in love with this plot line. I'm actually thinking of working it into my story somehow. ;) I love this type of Harry and Ginny because they usually are more confident, smarter, develop a relationship faster, and overall help shape the wizarding world into a better place. I also love the idea of Harry taking control of his life and making it into something he wants and something he can be proud of. Ginny is along as his partner and future wife. :D Favorite Stories: Harry Potter: Rogue, Aspirations, Taking Control Series, The Betrayal of the Light.
7) Dark!Harry and/or Dark!Ginny. For some strange reason, I love this type of plot as well. They usually do some Dumbledore bashing and occasionally some Hermione and/or Ron bashing. This plot sometimes goes along with the Independent!Harry and Independent!Ginny plot, since this Dark!Harry and Dark!Ginny usually do their own stuff anyways. Favorite Stories: Aspirations, The Betrayal of the Light, The Darkness Within Series.
8) Soul bond stories. I love, love, love these types of stories. I search them out and try to find as many as I can. I'm currently working on a soul bond story and am having so much fun with it. My story is inspired by many of the other wonderful soul bond stories out there. I've just always loved how Harry and Ginny were connected on a more intimate level and this plot fits perfect with my time travel, independent type story.Favorite Stories: Fate's Debt and the Philosopher's Stone, Harry Potter and the Twist of Fate Series, Soul Nexus, The Bonded Heir Series, The Core of Power Series.
Twilight Fanfiction Plots that I Dislike:
1) (Not exactly a plot) Authors who use bad grammar, lack capitalization, spacing, punctuation, and spell check skills. Misused their, they're, or there. I'm pretty sure this is a pet peeve of mine. If a story has THAT many errors, I will actually stop reading it. Seriously people, GET A BETA! Also if the summary of the story just sucks or the person said "I suck at summaries, just read it," I'm probably not going to read those either.
2) Some non-canon couples I don't like to see together. Edward/Tanya (eck..unless it's like a past relationship or something, I don't really like them together). Bella/Jacob (I like Jacob as a character, I just don't like them together unless it happened in the past). Slash fics (I'm not a huge slash fan but I have read a few Edward/Jasper fics).
3) When the story just drags on and on and on...and on and on...and on some more without really getting anywhere. So basically when there is no plot and it just keeps going like the energizer bunny. Another one that really gets me that I have seen a lot of is no plot, but lots and lots of lemons. They are basically just stories to write lemons and I don't like those either. One or five lemons is OK for a story, but not one every chapter. Where's the fun (or plot) in that?
4) Overused plots. Edward the badass falls for Bella the shy or smart girl, Edward the doctor takes care of Bella the continuously injured, Post-DH stories, Edward never returns or Bella gets turned while he's away, Edward is a player, Emmett is dumb and sleeps around while Alice's life is all shopping, etc. You get the picture. There are a lot of plots out there are used WAY too much and they just start to blend together.
Harry Potter Fanfiction Plots that I Dislike:
1) When Harry or Ginny is paired with someone other than the other (Hermione, Draco, Cho, Dean, Michael etc.). Canon couples only! I just don't like reading Harry or Ginny with anyone else but each other. It kills me to read that. :(
2) Tortured Harry. I'm not a huge fan of Harry being kidnapped and tortured because he always returns so messed up, which is understandable, I just can't stomach some of that. :/
3) Post-DH to Epilogue. I feel this plot is over used and prefer not to read it. I had actually started a story like this but decided to give up on it since there are so many out there and I couldn't come up with other creative ideas. I do like reading Harry and Ginny wedding or pregnancy stories, just not the entire 17 or 18 year gap.
